Phoenix Players is proud to present Next to Normal, a rock musical that focuses on a family coping with the effects of mental illness.
With subject matter rendered hauntingly familiar in a Pulitzer Prize winning script by Brian Yorkey, and a dynamic, energetic Tony award winning score by Tom Kitt, Next to Normal is a show that you won’t want to miss.
The story focuses on Diana, happily married with two teenage children, but plagued with anxieties, mood swings and delusions. Husband Dan confronts his own confusion and depression, daughter Natalie deals with isolation and a budding romance with a fellow music student Henry, and son Gabe serves as Diana's confidante and a link to a happier past. Next to Normal showcases powerhouse songs whilst exploring contemporary issues of trauma, loss, mental health treatments and the definition of normal. More...
